The first Denver edition of Urban Campfire, firing up on Tuesday, June 3, will be a storytelling evening of community proportions. The women-centered get-together and candlelight dinner was inspired by founder Melody Biringer's desire to create conversation, spark creativity and build a network of support for women of all ages, backgrounds and career stages. Put on through Biringer's Seattle-based CRAVE Company, the first Urban Campfire Denver has a local connection, as the event is being spearheaded by Brit Stueven of Pollinize Media.

The "campfire" concept is meant to mimic a fireside chat -- it is a place for women to gather, share a meal and feel comfortable in expressing their stories of triumph, tragedy, personal setbacks and accomplishments with a group of strangers. Six key speakers have been hand-selected by Stueven, women whose personal tales will serve as jumping off points for breakout groups to get personal and connect with each other later on in the evening.

"There is so much power when women get up and tell a story from their heart and it gives other women the permission to do the same," says Stueven. The women chosen to speak at the Campfire -- including Sarah Plummer, Gloria Scruggs and Jessica Bachus -- will be offering up extremely personal stories of survival through battles with homelessness, addiction and abuse, as well as celebrating successes like owning their own businesses, becoming best-selling authors and more.

"These women are all incredible and have gone through some kind of struggle, but come out of it shining," says Stueven. "They've bounced back, made a comeback and they are willing to tell their real stories." The speakers are all people with whom Stueven crossed paths in the last year -- women who made an impact on her by sharing what they went through and how they handled it.

More than just a dinner party or discussion group, the Urban Campfire is meant to be a place for women to meet other women and make authentic connections that can help them both personally and professionally. Stueven says that participants will be encouraged to sit with strangers in an effort to find new people and widen their own networks through conversation. "It's not an event that is for one kind of woman," she shares. Stay-at-home moms, students, working women -- everyone is invited to participate and enjoy an the evening of conversation, good food and new friendship.

The Urban Campfire goes down this Tuesday, June 3 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Studios At Overland Crossing. Tickets are $95 and include dinner. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the Crave Company's website.
