10 things to do for $10 in Denver this weekend (9 free!), July 18-20
Summer's starting to fly by -- we hope your money's not flying away with it. To help you survive the season with a soft landing, we've compiled a list of nine (possibly ten) events this weekend that won't cost you a dime -- but are still rich in entertainment value. Race a boat, go for a roll... you can't lose!
Check the Westword calendar for more events around town, and feel free to leave information below for any bargain event we may have missed.
Behind the Badge at Redline (Friday, free)
Benjamin Michael Turk stars in a one-man play that begs the question whether the boys in blue are friends or foes. Turk interrogates audience members on stage while trying to find an internal balance between good cop and bad.
Friday Flash no. 7 Kid Wonder at Denver Theater District (Friday- Saturday, free)
Kids and adults of all ages are invited to this outdoor screening of short, artistic digital films. In the tradition of Saturday morning cartoons, there will be a second showing the following morning.
'Fresh Jazz & Crisp Vinyl Series' at Dikeou Pop-Up: Colfax (Friday, free)
The vinyl will be crackling and the jazz sax will be screaming at Dikeou Pop-Up tonight. Join John A. Díaz-Cortés & the Folklorika Arkestra as well as a special guest DJ, who will be evoking the soul of times past.
Rock Rockabilly at Exdo (Friday,free-$5)
The monthly rollerskating party will wind back the clock to the early stages of rock and roll. Roll up your sleeves, grease your hair and put on a poodle skirt, because it's time to shake, rattle and roll. Get there early to avoid the $5 cover charge.
Belmar Cultural Festival at Belmar Plaza (Saturday, free)
Elementary school was cool for that one week a year that it hosted International week. All the classrooms embodied different countries, and you got to blow off the spelling tests and see dancers and try new food. If you recall those days fondly, head to Belmar for this international event featuring flamenco dancers, gypsy music, bagpipes and more all in one place. It's a small world after all.
