10 things to do for $10 in Denver this weekend (5 free!), August 1-3
Happy Colorado Day! In honor of this state's birthday, you'll find plenty of free activities around town. Start the weekend out right with tonight's free screening in Civic Center Park of the original, 1969 True Grit , which was filmed in Western Colorado. The scenery is stunning, and so is John Wayne's performance, which won an Academy Award. Bring a picnic or visit one of the food trucks that will roll in at 6:30; the movie starts at dusk.

The Internet Cat Video Festival at Sie Film Center (Friday-Saturday, $10)

Free Day at History Colorado (Friday-Saturday, free)
What better way to celebrate Colorado's 138th birthday than by learning all about it. In addition to the museum's regular exhibits, you can see American Indian dancing, and learn to make adobe bricks or pan for gold.
Book and Paper Fair at The Denver Mart (Friday-Saturday, $7)
Start a new chapter: The book fair is here. Celebrate the past, present and future of all things related to books, maps and even postcards. Fair warning: buying a first edition of Moby Dick will not be under $10.
