​Colorado companies cleaned up at this weekend's fifth annual IF3 International Freeski Film Festival in Montreal, with Boulder-based Sweetgrass Productions taking Best Cinematography for Solitaire, Denver-based Level 1 Productions winning Best Editing for After Dark, and Boulder-based Stept Productions claiming Best Jib Movie for Weight (the Boulder premiere of Weight is coming up on October 13, 6:40 p.m., at CU's Math 100 Lecture Hall).

Director Josh Berman and his Level 1 Productions crew -- local heroes all -- are bringing it tonight at 8 p.m. for the world premiere of After Dark at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, 2637 Welton Street ($15). ​Yesterday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board approved the addition of ski and snowboard slopestyle events at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. The announcement came yesterday from the 123rd IOC Session in Durban, South Africa, and follows an April announcement that ski halfpipe will also be a medal event in Sochi.

​The new U.S. Freeskiing National Team announced its first official team roster today, following April's news that Ski Halfpipe will be an Olympic medal sport at the 2014 Games in Sochi and that Copper Mountain will host the first Olympic qualifier for the event in December 2013. ​Ski season may be winding down, but Spring is prime time for film crews working on this year's new ski porn: Many ski areas now work with the top film companies to allow private sessions on the mountain after closing day. Case in point? Poor Boyz Productions has let loose a sneak peek of the triple cork 1440 freeskier Bobby Brown (a Breckenridge local) landed on Saturday at Red Bull's private training park at Squaw Valley in California; the trick will be featured in the 2011 Poor Boyz feature. ​Last week the International Olympic Committee officially announced that Ski Halfpipe will debut as an Olympic medal sport at the 2014 Games in Sochi. That's big news for one local ski resort: For U.S. athletes the road to Sochi will begin at Copper Mountain, host of the first Olympic qualifier in December 2013 as the opening event of the 2013/2014 United States Ski & Snowboard Association (USSA) Grand Prix.
